Building Brand Story & Messaging for Meaningful Action with Libby Staggs
/Libby Staggs is a woman on a mission.
The founder of Sustainable Business Matters, she's helping SMEs in the Architecture, Building and Design space to take meaningful action towards ending modern slavery and labour exploitation in their supply chains.
For Libby, her goal is more than creating a business she loves to work in. It's about creating a movement towards ending modern slavery. And that's what she and I have been working on together as we grow her brand, refine her message and create change across industries.
In our 10 Years, 10 Stories chat, we talk about how Libby became so passionate about social sustainability, how you can find your passion in your business again when you've been in it for so long, how the right support is critical when you're a solopreneur and why curiosity is one of the most valuable things we can bring both to our businesses, and our lives.

Interview Highlights
Meet Libby
Libby is one of the most passionate people I’ve ever met.
And I know that word gets overused now. But there’s just no other way to describe how much of a mission this woman is on.
Libby is working to educate, inspire, empower and activate Australian SMEs in the Architecture, Building & Design industries, to take meaningful action towards ending modern slavery and labour exploitation in their supply chains.
She’s not just looking to grow her business. She’s building a movement.
And I’ve loved every minute of unpacking her genius through Brand Story Strategy so we can start honing her message and creating change.
One of my favourite things about Libby is her commitment to taking action. She wants to inspire others to do just that, and she’s absolutely leading by example – even when we’re diving into uncharted marketing territory in her business.
Our favourite project we’ve worked on together…
Libby and I built Brand Story together through the Brand Story Strategy Workshop, before she became my 1:1 client.
But it’s not her Brand Story Strategy that has been our favourite thing we’ve worked on together.
It’s what grew from that which is the best part.
Off the back of a clear Brand Story Strategy, we’ve built a framework for Libby around taking meaningful action towards ending modern slavery.
This framework lays the foundations of how she communicates, how she delivers her services, and even helps to map the client journey in a clear and direct way. This means we can create valuable resources and services for clients, no matter what stage of the journey they’re at.
The framework has empowered Libby to implement new products and services AND even say goodbye to clients who were no longer in alignment with her goals.
What we love most about working together…
Libby always shows up ready to do the thing.
We have epic conversations, pushing strategy forward in her business and I always leave our strategy calls on a high.
As to what Libby loves about working with me, she says:
“I have a message and I really wanted to be able to get that out. And I haven't been so brave in doing that. And I really wanted to connect with someone on a deeper level that could help me really, really understand my business, understand me, understand how important my message was, and that would be there to support me in doing that.
And I just felt like we could create magic together when I met you.”
What Libby thinks will change for business in the next 10 years…
With such a powerful message to share, and so much noise in the world, Libby believes that getting cut through is going to be the greatest challenge for businesses across the next 10 years.
And how do we overcome this challenge?
When it comes to social sustainability in particular, Libby says –
“I think really speaking to people in a way that ignites passion within their heart. So they go, gosh, yes, there's a problem. We need to take meaningful action. I want to be part of this cohort of people that are doing something to make a positive impact on people's lives.”
But I think this is true for all businesses.
Key Interview Insight
And I think, this is where the brand strategy workshop was so valuable because it really led me through this process, but one of the key parts of that was learning about your tribe.
Who are the people that are going to feel connected to what you're saying? That was magic. And like, it may or may not be obvious to people, but it was just like, yes, there's a tribe of people that will care about this. There's a tribe of people that want to take meaningful action.
There's a tribe of people that will really feel connected to what I'm saying.
